Descripción

This paper attempted to identify the socioeconomic characteristics of borrowers causing crop loan default by applying a discriminatant function analysis. The study shows that live c socioeconomic characteristics of borrowers make them defaulters. These include family size. per capita consumption expenditure, size of operated holdings, amount of loans taken from other sources and percentage of total expenditure to total income. These characteristics are usually possessed by large farmers. Thus the study implies that large farmers are generally defaulters of crop loans. These findings have great implications for credit policies in Bangladesh as policies of' hanks favour large farmers in advancing credit.
