The report on the evaluation of project OSRO/SRL/901/SWE, titled “Emergency Agriculture and Food Security Assistance in Support of Returnees, Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), Host Families and other Vulnerable Families in the Districts of Jaffna, Mannar and Vavuniya in Northern Sri Lanka” articulates the key results and challenges faced during project implementation within the broader context of the FAO emergency and rehabilitation programme in Northern Sri Lanka to re-establish agriculture based livelihoods and improve food security for returnees and internally displaced persons (IDPs). As highlighted in the report, the project exceeded its target to reach 106 percent of planned beneficiaries. The project made notable impact on the livelihoods of targeted farming households, making them less dependent on food aid and considerably improving their food security and coping mechanisms. The report also presents sound recommendations and good lessons learned to strengthen project/progra mme results and to streamline implementation in the field.
