With the world’s population growing and climate change threatening to undermine existing agriculture and food systems, urgent action needs to be taken to ensure that food security and nutrition goals are met and to reduce poverty. A key way of doing this is through the dissemination, promotion and facilitation of climate-smart agriculture (CSA) practices, which can empower those most vulnerable to the effects of climate change, including smallholder farmers, livestock keepers, fishers and foresters (especially women and Indigenous Peoples), to sustainably increase productivity and production, build resilience, and adapt to and mitigate climate change through the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the sector. The concept of CSA was established in 2010, and one of the most significant moments in the mobilization of political support and the catalysing of on-the-ground action in the area was through the founding of the Global Alliance for Climate-Smart Agriculture (GACSA) in 2014. This project was formulated to provide support for the GACSA’s Facilitation Unit (FU) to develop and expand a multistakeholder CSA platform by engaging member institutions from different constituencies.
