The mission to the CARERE2 Project with main objective of providing technical advice for the development of freshwater aquaculture in the project area of Pursat, Siem Reap and Battambang provinces was carried out during the 6 September to 5 October 1999. The rain-fed are of the three provinces are divided into segments the lowland and upland. The lowland is characterized by flooding from Tonle Sap. Intensity of the flood, however, depends more or less on the amount of rainfall. The lowland se gment is spread around Tonle Sap, which is surrounded by the main road around the lake. The upland segment is the area next to the flood plain area. Some of these areas are quite suitable for aquaculture, especially pond-fish and rice/fish culture.
