Social protection is recognized strategy for ending poverty, achieving zero hunger and building resilient livelihoods. Evidence shows that combining social protection and forest-policy instruments can help to conserve forests, while increasing the productive capacity and resilience of forest-dependent communities. FAO and partners are exploring opportunities for building linkages and synergies between such instruments to help Member Countries combat poverty and hunger. The side-event aims to:
• Facilitate knowledge sharing and a discussion on FAO’s work on establishing synergies between social protection and forestry.
• Lanch two new working papers: “A diagnostic on social protection needs and opportunities for forest-dependent communities in the United Republic of Tanzania” and “The role of forest producer organizations in social protection“.
• Discuss the way forward.
