The WECAFC Reorientation and Strategic Planning Workshop was held in Gosier, Guadeloupe, on 29 and 30 January 2014. The workshop was attended by delegations from nine members of the Commission. The workshop reviewed the preliminary outcomes of the WECAFC performance review and the options for WECAFC’s improvement and strategic reorientation. Proposals for amendment of the WECAFC Rules of Procedure and a draft Strategic Plan 2014–2020 were presented and discussed. The Workshop requested the WECAF C Secretariat to present the reviewed and amended documents to the fifteenth session for endorsement. The workshop also recommended to the fifteenth session of WECAFC to identify whether there is scope and support for establishment of a Regional Fisheries Management Organization (RFMO) in the region and request (if appropriate) FAO to engage with the members in a process of transition of WECAFC from a FAO Article VI Regional Fishery Advisory Body to an FAO Article XIV regional fisheries manageme nt organization (RFMO), should the Commission decide to go that route. In addition, various project concepts and proposals, as prepared by FAO, the WECAFC Secretariat and Bureau were shared with the delegations for information and identification of potential funding sources.
