| dc.description | The protracted conflict in Tigray region that began in November 2020 has disrupted agricultural livelihood activities and caused massive displacement, high levels of food insecurity, limited access to services and the destruction of the local economy. According to the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification report, released in June 2021, about 5.5 million people were in a situation of high acute food insecurity. Widespread emergency and crisis outcomes were likely across Tigray region, with the worst-affected populations in the eastern, central and north-western areas. Internally displaced people (IDPs), returnees and host community households were increasingly vulnerable because of their lack of access to agricultural inputs and a chronic shortage of basic services. High prices of agricultural inputs and products reduced purchasing power at a household level, which in turn exacerbated acute and chronic vulnerabilities among significant segments of the population. | |
