The 2006 bird flu epidemic began in South-East Asia in 1997 and then spread through Central Asia and the Middle East, reaching Africa in early 2006. CIRAD worked with a number of experts, from both North and South, to compile this booklet on the costs and health risks of the disease, particularly for disadvantaged populations.
