The Global Blue Shark Management Strategy Evaluation (MSE) Workshop, held at FAO headquarters in Rome from 14 to 16 October 2025, brought together 25 scientists from ten countries and four regional fisheries management organizations (RFMOs), ICCAT, IOTC, IATTC, and WCPFC. Co-hosted by The Ocean Foundation and The Pew Charitable Trusts, with support from the FAO Common Oceans Tuna Project, Oceankind, and the Paul M. Angell Family Foundation, the workshop marked the first global initiative to advance the development of management procedures (MPs) for a shark species. The report documents key discussions on the development of operating models for blue shark, performance indicators, and candidate management procedures. Participants exchanged experiences on data availability, uncertainty treatment, and cross-RFMO collaboration to ensure coherent and effective management measures. The workshop emphasized the importance of harmonized frameworks, stakeholder engagement, and transparent decision-making processes. It concludes with a set of recommendations for advancing MSE testing for blue shark, improving data collection, and supporting coordinated regional implementation of management.
