Descripción
There have been several initiatives in Zambia involving the containment of the effects of diseases on cassava. These have had a profound impact on specific areas that defined the objectives of their implementations. However, cassava mosaic disease (CMD)/cassava brown streak disease (CBSD) disease pressure in major cassava-growing areas in Zambia remains unabated, resulting in sustained low yields.Against this background, the project aimed to increase cassava yields in affected target areas by providing farmers and extension staff with knowledge and information on the identification and control of CBSD and CMD, and by identifying cassava varieties with dual resistance to CBSD and CMD.
