| dc.description | In 2021, Madagascar is heavily affected by drought, COVID-19, Rift Valley fever and Fall armyworm, and is now facing a worrying locust situation that is beyond its national capacity. The 2021/22 locust campaign, which plans to treat 400 000 hectares, is deemed to be crucial: if the locust situation were to deteriorate further to the point of an upsurge, an even larger area of Madagascar would be directly threatened, further compromision the food security and livelihoods in the area. The consequences of a major upsurge are unpredictable, especially since the Grand Sud of Madagascar is already in an alarming food insecure situation. FAO and the Malagasy Ministry of Agriculture have jointly prepared an action plan to curb the spread of locusts in Madagascar. The action plan will require funding to be procured by October 2021 to be effective. | |
