The technical foundation of the workshop was a set of GIS-based soil erosion risk maps developed using the Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE), integrating spatial layers of rainfall erosivity, soil erodibility, topography, land cover, and management practices. These maps provided spatially explicit overview of erosion dynamics in Son La, allowing the identification of erosion hotspots where soil loss is most severe and where interventions could deliver the highest environmental and socio-economic returns.
