This document contains the report of a Workshop on “Smart Partnerships for Sustainability in the Fishing Industry.” It was held in Penang, Malaysia, on 26-27 November, 1997, and was organised jointly by the Institute On Governance, Canada, and the FAO’s Bay of Bengal Programme, with support from the Maritime Institute of Malaysia (MIMA), the Department of Fisheries, Malaysia (DOFM), and the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA). This report contains the papers presented by worksh op participants including the keynote address and the presentations of “country experiences” from South Asia and Southeast Asia.
