dc.descriptionTo ensure that food production can meet the demands of a growing global population and withstand shocks and severe weather events brought about by climate change, it is necessary to reinforce agriculture systems and ensure their sustainability and resilience. This is especially important in rural areas, where many people live in poverty and agricultural systems are particularly vulnerable. This subprogramme was designed to support national and local decision-makers in Bangladesh, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, North Macedonia, the United Republic of Tanzania and Zambia to assess the sustainability of agriculture systems in their countries and identify ways to enhance the sustainability of these systems moving forward through the implementation of climate-smart agriculture (CSA) and agroecology practices. This was to be done through the development and testing of tools and methods that are closely aligned with SDG indicators and targets to advance work towards the achievement of these Goals.
