Agriculture is a pillar of the Serbian economy, accounting for approximately 10 percent of the national gross domestic product (GDP), constituting 20 percent of exports and employing over 20 percent of the working-age population. Within this context, organic agriculture continues to figure more prominently, presenting numerous potential socioeconomic and environmental benefits. Organic agriculture also figures prominently in the agricultural policies of the European Union. In this context, the Farm to Fork strategy aims to increase the share of organic food and farming within the European Union to 25 percent by 2030. As a candidate nation for membership in the European Union, Serbia needs to bring itself in line with this objective.
