Descripción

The project “Strengthening expertise in sub-Saharan Africa on birds and their rational use for communities and their environment” (RESSOURCE) aims to improve natural resource management in the large Sahelian wetlands where local populations derive many benefits, particularly in terms of food security and local development. It has been established to support communities in conserving wetlands and water birds in five countries. The RESSOURCE Project is being implemented in cooperation with the relevant government authorities in Chad, Egypt, Mali, Senegal and Sudan, and with key technical partners, including: • French Agricultural Research Centre for International Development (CIRAD); • France’s National Agency for Biodiversity (OFB); • European Institute for the Management of Wild Birds and their Habitats (OMPO); • Wetlands International Africa (WIA); • Birdlife International (BI); and • Research Institute Tour du Valat (TdV). The RESSOURCE Project is being funded by the French Facility for Global Environment and the European Union through the Sustainable Wildlife Management (SWM) Programme. The SWM Programme is an initiative from the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States and is being implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the French Agricultural Research Centre for International Development (CIRAD), the Centre for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) and the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS).
