Resumen
Descripción
The Continuous Forest Inventory (CFN) is a tool of great importance to the monitoring of forests growth and average production. Its keynote is constituted by permanent plots (PPs), sample units where periodical information is collected, involving quantitative and qualitative remeasurement of the woody vegetation. These data and other information from silvicultural essays and fenological or ecological studies contribute to the forests structure and dynamic model building. Therefore, a systematic database obtained by the permanent plots information constitutes an important tool to the management and sustainable forest development and to the conservation strategies of protected areas. A methodological model for the National System of Permanent Plots (SisPP) was developed by the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation - Embrapa, particularly by researchers of the Embrapa Florestas (the forest branch of EMBRAPA) in partnership with the National Forest Programme of Brazil - PNF (the forest branch of the Brazilian Environment Ministry). The proposal was presented, discussed and approved by the Brazilian forest inventory community in a Workshop carried out in September 2004.
