dc.descriptionRESUMO - Sistemas silvipastoris são uma alternativa sustentável de produção animal e vegetal e sua utilização tem crescido nos últimos anos. Seu sucesso depende da identificação de gramíneas tolerantes ao sombreamento. Com o objetivo de avaliar parâmetros genéticos que possam determinar a seleção e o melhoramento de Panicum maximum, foi realizado um experimento na Embrapa Gado de Corte, em Campo Grande, MS, em vasos, com 25 genótipos promissores sob três níveis de sombreamento artificial (0, 50 e 70%). Foram realizados quatro cortes e avaliados as produções das matérias secas total e foliar e de raízes no último corte, porcentagem de folhas, altura das plantas, número de perfilhos e valores SPAD. Altas herdabilidades foram encontradas para numero de perfilhos, porcentagem de folhas e altura das plantas, indicando uma elevada acurácia na seleção para estas características. Com exceção da variável matéria seca de raízes, as outras características apresentaram uma alta correlação entre os ambientes, portanto, a seleção pode ser realizada independente dos níveis de sombreamento. O número de perfilhos apresentou a maior variação genética disponível para a realização do melhoramento, devido ao seu alto coeficiente de variação genética. A variável produção de raízes, é importante na seleção de genótipos em condições de sombreamento, por ter sido a variável que mais foi afetada pelos níveis de sombreamento. ABSTRACT - Agro-forestry systems are a sustainable alternative of animal and plant production and its use has increased over the last years. Its success depends on the identification of grasses tolerant to shading. With the objectives of evaluating genetic parameters that may determine selection and breeding in Panicum maximum, an experiment was carried out at Embrapa Beef Cattle, in Campo Grande, MS, with 25 genotypes in pots and under three artificial shades (0, 50 and 70%). Four evaluation cuts were carried out and the following characteristics were evaluated: total and leaf dry matter productions, and root production in the last evaluation, leaf percentage, plant height, tiller number and SPAD values. High heritabilities were found for tiller number, leaf percentage and plant height, indicating high accuracy in the selection of these characteristics. With the exception of root production, all other characteristics presented a high correlation among shading levels, indicating that selection can be done independent of shading level. Number of tillers presented the highest genetic variation available for breeding. Root production was the variable most affected by the shading levels, and is thus, important in the selection of genotypes for shading conditions. Improvement from breeding this characteristic will be extremely difficult.
