The paper present a typology of the new and diverse new rural residents
assuming as empirical support the case study of Manizales, Colombia. The information
was generated from semi-structured interviews focused on the motivations to migrate
from the city to the country and the integration of migrants to host social space. The
analysis allowed establishing four types of new rural people: a) neo-rural for comparative
attraction, b) neo-rural for ethical-political attraction, c) neo-rural for economic-productive
attraction and d) neo-rural for expulsion. It is concluded that the neoruralism is a localized
expression, variable with the social context of the occurrence.
