The document contains the background information on Belize, an overview of the country's economic and agricultural policies, the status of Belize's natural resource base, the major characteristics of and trens in agricultural production and trade, and constraints on the agricultural sector. Then, it provides a profile of small farm agriculture in Belize, it gives a diagnosis of the basic agricultural support services (planning, research, extension, training and plant and animal health), and finally, it presents a discussion of the major issues and strategic elements for the development of the agricultural sector, and makes specific policy and institutional recommendations.
