This document is based on a preliminary work for FAO by Ing. Carlos Isaac Pérez under contract to the Biomass Users Network (BUN). It was published in April 1991 under the title "Estudio Sobre el Canje de la Deuda Externa para Promover la Conservación de los Recursos Forestales", and subsequently modified in the light of the invaluable contributions recieved form the Latin American Workshop on Debt-for-Nature Swaps, held in Santiago de Chile from 3 to 5 December 1991.
