Descripción
The seasonal climate and agricultural outlook for Afghanistan indicates generally favourable agricultural conditions entering June, supported by recent spring precipitation, positive crop development and improved pasture conditions across much of the country. However, conditions remain uneven, with localized vegetation stress persisting in parts of the north and northwest. Near-normal precipitation and above-average temperatures are expected during June, increasing risks of localized flooding, hailstorms and rising irrigation water demand. Below-average snow reserves, declining groundwater levels and reduced river flows raise concerns about water availability for summer crops and livestock systems. While no widespread crop failure is anticipated, localized risks related to water shortages, pests, crop diseases and climate variability – including the likely emergence of El Niño later in 2026 – require continued monitoring.
