| dc.description | FAO’s latest forecast for global paddy output in 1998 is 561 million tonnes, about 17 million tonnes, or about 3 percent lower than the previous year's revised record level. The reduction is largely attributed to flood-related problems in a number of major rice producing countries in Asia where preliminary indications suggest a high degree of damage in some countries. However, the final outcome will greatly depend on the impact of floods in the affected countries. | |
