Afghanistan is facing one of its worst droughts in decades. The ongoing large-scale drought occurring in the backdrop of a protracted conflict is significantly affecting the already chronically and acutely food insecure population and their livelihoods. A progressively deteriorating situation with 10.6 million people (around 30 percent of the population) are now facing severe food insecurity and in need of urgent action. In response, FAO is committed to safeguarding food production and protecting herders' livestock to improve food security and ensure stability within the region.
