Descripción
Bangladesh has demonstrated
remarkable development progress in the last five decades.
The country’s journey from one of the poorest countries at
independence to a lower-middle-income nation within four
decades is a testament to its resilience, policy decisions,
and commitment to reducing poverty and fostering shared
prosperity. Bangladesh has achieved gender parity in school
enrollment and significantly reduced in maternal and child
mortality rates. Facing severe climate challenges,
Bangladesh has shown leadership in adaptation and disaster
preparedness, alongside modernizing its agricultural sector
to boost productivity. Rural roads connect the remotest
corners and almost all homes have access to electricity.
Bangladesh has provided shelter to the displaced Rohingya
population, and the World Bank has supported to the country
to provide health, learning, and basic services for both the
Rohingya and host communities in Cox’s Bazar. Through a
robust program of technical, analytical, and financial
support, the World Bank is helping Bangladesh achieve its
vision of upper-middle income country status by 2031. The
publication provides glimpses on ongoing World Bank
supported projects in Bangladesh.
