| dc.description | In the Southern Hemisphere and around the equatorial belt, harvesting of the 2001 mainpaddy season is about to be completed, while in the Northern Hemisphere, planting of the main crops is underway. The outlook for global paddy production 2001 is somewhat mixed. Self-sufficiency programmes in several countries appear to be assisted by a combination of timely seasonal weather, larger plantings and expected payoffs from investments in crop infrastructure and improved input usage. | |
