The fifth and final Cadmium Talks webinar focused on the challenges and opportunities for small cocoa producers in Latin America and the Caribbean, especially regarding compliance with international cadmium standards. The session featured insights from EO (Ethical Trading Company), which supports farmer cooperatives through ethical trade, traceability, and market access. The cooperative model was highlighted as essential for scaling, sharing knowledge, and meeting strict regulations, such as the EU deforestation rule. The discussion emphasized market opportunities for ethical, traceable products and the power of storytelling to enhance cocoa marketing. Speakers encouraged farmers to embrace collaboration, recognize their value, and build direct relationships with buyers. The webinar closed with a call to action: to strengthen supply chains, improve quality control, adopt sustainable practices, and ensure competitiveness in global markets. It underscored that smallholder farmers are central to food systems and that their collective efforts can drive real change and resilience.
