Descripción
Forests are crucial for the resilience of landscapes and people, supporting their capacity to adapt to climate change. The formulation and implementation of National Adaptation Plans, established in 2010 under the Cancun Adaptation Framework, offers an opportunity to better integrate the role of forests in national adaptation strategies and policies.
In this session, countries will share experiences on long-term planning and implementation of climate change adaptation in the forest sector, within the context of their broader responses to climate change. Presentations will be made on the challenges and opportunities in the formulation and implementation of National Adaptation Plans and efforts and issues to be addressed in the forest sector. Discussions will aim at highlighting the importance of assessing the vulnerability of forests and forest dependent people, particularly in Small Island States and Least Developed Countries, within national adaptation planning. This will be followed by an exchange of country experiences in integrating forests into national frameworks and plans for climate change adaptation, in particular the Nationally Determined Contributions and the National Adaptation Plans.
