dc.descriptionArticle 6.8 of the Paris Agreement allows Parties to cooperate voluntarily through non-market approaches (NMAs) to meet their climate commitments. Yet, despite growing engagement within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) process, only three NMA projects have been registered globally. Through a McKnight Foundation-funded project that assesses whether agroecological initiatives can be potential NMAs, the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT engaged Paola Pozo, a Bolivian financial engineer and economic diplomat, to conduct the literature review. What followed emerged organically from genuine knowledge sharing and access to negotiations: Pozo was oriented to the UNFCCC process, spoke at the Alliance's COP30 side event, joined Bolivia's Article 6.8 delegation, and was subsequently invited by the Bolivian government to serve as Bolivia’s national focal point for Article 6.8. Bolivia is now evaluating two concrete NMA project candidates for registration using indicators developed through the McKnight project.
