| dc.description | This paper was prepared as a response by the IICA Office in Jamaica to the document titled Plant of Joint Action for the Reactivation of Agriculture in Latin America and the Caribbean: Guidelines for preparation. The overall purpose of the exercise resulting in this paper was to assist the IICA Office in Jamaica in assessing the agricultural sector problems and strategies pursued by the Government of Jamaica (GOJ). The paper encompasses draft recommendations for future action which may be addressed by those constructing the Joint Plan of Action (JPA). The exercise has facilitated planning and organizing a series of Round Table Meetings at the national level. These Round Table Meetings will provide a fora to which the draft recommendations will be submitted; the anticipated result will be the analyses and recommendations of prominent Jamaicans in the public and private sector. Through this procedure, we hope to structure Jamaica's contribution to the preparation of the Joint Plant of Action. The document adds that the exercise was carried out by holding a series of retreats whereby the professional staff of the IICA Office in Jamaica reviewed the topics listed in the JPA Guidelines, as well as some additional ones, and prepared recommendations accordingly.
