En este primer vídeopodcast se habla de los éxitos obtenidos en la prevención de la Peste Porcina Africana en Centroamérica y el Caribe. El video trata sobre un proyecto liderado por el IICA (Instituto Interamericano de Cooperación para la Agricultura) enfocado en la prevención y control de la Peste Porcina Africana (PPA) en Centroamérica y el Caribe, tras un brote en República Dominicana en 2021. Durante la presentación, dos veterinarios con amplia experiencia en epidemiología explican su rol en el proyecto. Se destaca la cooperación internacional, especialmente con el USDA, para realizar capacitaciones virtuales, fortalecer la bioseguridad, y mejorar la respuesta ante emergencias sanitarias. También se abordan los retos técnicos y logísticos en la región, como la falta de personal y laboratorios, y cómo se han superado con apoyo internacional. El proyecto ha sido reconocido por Caricom por su impacto positivo, y se reafirma el compromiso del IICA de continuar fortaleciendo la seguridad alimentaria y la vigilancia epidemiológica hasta 2027.
In this first video podcast, the discussion centers on the successes achieved in preventing African Swine Fever in Central America and the Caribbean. The video focuses on a project led by the IICA (Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture) aimed at the prevention and control of African Swine Fever (ASF) in Central America and the Caribbean, following an outbreak in the Dominican Republic in 2021. During the presentation, two veterinarians with extensive experience in epidemiology explain their roles in the project.
