This technology describes the introduction of laser levelling, ridge sowing, Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and compost application in cotton cultivation in the Ghotki district in Pakistan. The country experienced several floods and droughts that are likely to worsen due to climate change which is impacting monsoon patterns and increasing extreme temperatures. Growing cotton on ridges combined with the use of IPM techniques can help farmers to
reduce their irrigation water consumption in cotton fields without decreasing yield. This practice also allows to limit the use of chemical pesticides. The fields were leveled using a laser land leveler to ensure equal distribution of the water in the field. Compost was applied during land preparation, which helped to increase the water holding capacity of the soil.
