Afghanistan is experiencing a major food security and livelihoods crisis, currently regarded as the world’s third largest. Without immediate livelihood support, in a country where more than 70 percent are associated with crop production and livestock, the food security situation is expected to deteriorate further. In response, FAO developed the Emergency Livelihoods Response Plan 2019. The overall objective of the plan is to protect and rehabilitate the livelihoods of 1.4 million vulnerable people at risk of hunger and malnutrition in Afghanistan. Implementing the ELRP will require USD 35 million to support 1.4 million people over a 12-month period.
