Resumen
Descripción
The GloLitter Partnerships Project, part of the OceanLitter Programme, aimed to address the gendered aspects of marine plastic litter (MPL) in fisheries. Gender studies in Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal, and Togo highlighted the different roles men and women play in MPL creation and management. Pilot projects under the GloLitter initiative trained women’s cooperatives in MPL management, but challenges like limited income opportunities and infrastructure were identified. The studies recommend further research on gender roles in fisheries and incorporating gender-responsive strategies into MPL management to empower women and promote community responsibility in waste disposal.
