dc.descriptionThis paper describes the marine shrimp fisheries in countries around the Bay of Bengal. It summarizes available information on the fishery, catch data, rates and composition, also or by-catch. It also reviews the status of exploitation, stock assessment and management in various countries of the region. The paper was sponsored by the Marine Fishery Resources Management project (RAS/81/051) of the Bay of Bengal Programme (BOBP). The project commenced January 1983 and terminated December 198 6. It was funded by the UNDP (United Nations Development Programme) and executed by the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations). The project aimed at improving the practice of resource assessment among countries of the region and assisting joint management activities between countries sharing fish stocks.
