This is the 6th edition of the FAO Bangladesh newsletter, covering January to March 2022. The 36th Session of the FAO Regional Conference for Asia and the Pacific was hosted by the Government of Bangladesh for the first time. It was the first APRC to be held in hybrid, with some delegates attending in person in Dhaka and others joining by video link. More than 1 100 participants from 42 Member countries registered. The Director-General, QU Dongyu, attended in person during a five-day visit to Bangladesh as part of his first official trip outside Italy since the start of COVID-19 international travel restrictions. It was also the first time that had had attendended. On the sidelines, the Director-General conducted several bilateral meetings with country delegations. He also met with United Nations Country Team representatives and headed a discussion on FAO’s Hand-in-Hand initiative. Before leaving, he paid an official visit to see the Prime Minister. He thanked the country for hosting a successful APRC. He was joined by an FAO delgation that included Maximo Torero, Chief Economist, and Jong-Jin Kim, Assistant Director Geneal and FAO Regional Representatice for Asia and the Pacific. At the end of a five-day visit to Bangladesh and following the close of APRC36, the DG visited a thriving commercial fish pond, a bio-secure model poultry farm, and two of the country’s leading centres for agricultural research. In other news, FAO inaugurated its new Representation in Dhaka after 44 years in the old office.
