Descripción

The "Technical assistance for sound management of hazardous chemicals in Uzbekistan" yearbook (2024–2025) provides a comprehensive overview of a project led by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Uzbekistan, in close collaboration with the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change (formerly the Ministry of Ecology) and the Agency of Plant Protection and Quarantine, and funded by the European Union. This document highlights the project’s first two years of implementation, detailing progress across three core areas: institutional strengthening for chemicals management, hazardous waste inventory and management, and reduction of pesticide use through sustainable agricultural practices. This yearbook is essential for stakeholders — including government agencies, development partners, researchers, and farmers — as it documents the critical transition from foundational assessment to concrete action. It offers a transparent roadmap of how the project is addressing long-standing gaps (e.g., lost records of obsolete pesticide sites, lack of hazardous waste infrastructure, and widespread highly hazardous pesticide use), while aligning Uzbekistan’s national policies with international conventions (Rotterdam and Minamata). The document serves as both an accountability tool and a practical guide for future investment in environmental health and agricultural sustainability in Uzbekistan.
