The Shanghai Declaration, a key output from the fourth Global Conference on Aquaculture Millennium +20 (GCA +20), highlights the principles and pathways to maximize sustainable aquaculture in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, and specifically presents: a shared vision of sustainable aquaculture; five overarching commitments; and ten strategic priorities.
The Shanghai Declaration was drafted by a small group of globally recognized aquaculture experts, followed by consultations with a wider group with appropriate technical, regional and gender balance, including members of the International Organizing Committee and International Programme Committee. The draft was opened for comment by all registered participants, with comments incorporated to the extent possible. The Shanghai Declaration, which is a participants’ declaration, was presented on the first day (23 September 2021) and unanimously adopted on the second day of the GCA +20 (24 September 2021).
