Resumen
Descripción
This baseline study examines how gender and youth inclusion shape agronomic practices, productivity, and resource use efficiency in the Central Kenya Highland Foodscape, covering Laikipia, Meru, and Nyandarua counties. Using survey data from 605 farming households, the analysis shows that decision-making structures within households strongly influence agricultural outcomes. Farms where men and women jointly make production decisions achieve higher crop yields, better water use efficiency, and improved food security compared to households with individual decision-making. Youth- and women-headed households face the greatest constraints in access to land, credit, inputs, and extension services. The findings highlight the importance of integrating gender- and youth-responsive approaches into agronomic interventions to enhance productivity, resilience, and inclusive food systems transformation in East Africa.
