Descrição, composição e manejo de jardins na área ribeirinha do Estado do Amazonas: This study was undertaken on the "Caldeirao Coast', a flooding area on the Solimoes river, in the Amazonas state. An adapted version of the Diagnosis and Design (D&D) methodology was used to obtain a synthesis information on floristic composition, structure, and socioeconomic aspects of each sub-system. The synthesis on this data revealed two distinct structural categories. The first one comprised an efficient agroecosystem with a high diversity and no specie dominance. The second one had a moderate diversity, and a high specie dominance, especially by Cocos nucifera, Hevea brasiliensis, and Theobroma cacao. The structural composition and management of the individual components of each sub-system were a function of the ecological and socioeconomic factors, wich were intimately linked to the minimum requirements to meet the familys subsistence needs and the sale of surplus as a contribution for the household's monetary needs.
