The document identified the following objectives: to increase and sustain agricultural contribution to the general economic growth of the economy, to increase production and productivity, to improve the quality of rural life, reduce unemployment and minimize rural/urban migration by creating increased opportunities in agriculture and related activities, and to foster the development of appropriate technology through research and development and ensure the transfer of this technology to farmers.
