In 1993 the Kenya Food Composition Tables (KFCT) wereformulated by the Government to aggregate the nutrientcontent of local foods. Since then, there were changes in thepopulations’ food consumption patterns. The introduction ofnew foods, food fortification, bio fortification and technologiesfor food processing necessitated review of the tables. Lack ofan updated and comprehensive Food Composition Tableprevented the Government from promoting dietary activitiesthat would alleviate food and nutrition insecurity. This projectwas implemented to review and update the tables andto strengthen the linkages between scientific research on foodanalysis and decision-making on food-based approachesfor improved nutrition security.
