Descripción
The fishery sector in Lebanon has faced several social, technical and environmental challenges in the last decades, negatively impacting livelihoods of fishers along the Lebanese Coast Sea pollution, shrinking fisheries resources, unsustainable angling in nursery habitats and illegal fishing gears have put undue pressure on coastal waters In addition, the limited human resources of the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife of the Ministry of Agriculture ( curtail its ability to survey and counter illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing Young people are aware of the sector’s difficulties and wonder about its long term viability In this regard, generational turnover will be difficult to ensure unless more sustainable fisheries practices and equipment are introduced.
