The Codex Trust Fund (CTF), hosted by the World Health Organization, supports eligible low- and middle-income countries to participate more effectively in the FAO/WHO Codex Alimentarius Commission and subsidiary food standards setting bodies. Established in 2003, the positive impact of CTF projects has been felt throughout Codex committees and Commission meetings, and in countries. In this story, Senegalese fisheries expert Mamadou Ndiaye describes how the CTF project in his country helped to reinforce capacities and confidence for improved participation in Codex meetings on the part of Senegal. This story, and others, helps to explain to donors the benefits their contributions bring: Codex standards-setting will protect human health and facilitate fair practices in the food trade for all when all countries can participate in Codex processes at all levels. The CTF plays an important part in ensuring this inclusivity. This publication is a part of communications efforts to highlight the role of the CTF in benefitting individual Members and the entire membership.
