In any agricultural activity, there are multiple risks. They have an impact on the results achieved by the
farms. In the process of risk management it is necessary to identify risks and to use appropriate methods of
risk reduction. One of the best instruments for risk protection in agriculture is insurance. Polish legislation
provides a number of opportunities to uses of insurance. The State requires traders to insure property, crops,
vehicles. Besides, it is possible also to use the voluntary insurance. The surveys show, however, that the use
of insurance is insufficient.
