Resumen
Descripción
This feature story in IRRI’s Rice Today examines how a regional, systemic shift is required to move farmers away from traditional rice straw burning and toward sustainable, circular alternatives. It highlights that scaling solutions—such as repurposing straw for compost, mushrooms, and biochar—depends on overcoming critical logistical, financial, and environmental constraints like machinery access and field trafficability. Ultimately, establishing reliable market value chains can help transform this agricultural residue from a burdensome waste product into an economic and low-emission opportunity.
