Descripción

The Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture Value Chains for the Mediterranean (SVC4MED) project, implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) with financial support from the Italian Government, aimed to enhance the competitiveness and sustainability of wild shrimp and farmed rainbow trout value chains in the Mediterranean region. This policy brief highlights key findings from the wild shrimp value chain analysis in Türkiye, summarizing a comprehensive study that assessed the sector’s economic, social, and environmental dimensions. The analysis drew on secondary data from statistical databases, primary data from interviews with industry stakeholders, field observations, and focus group discussions. The study provides policy recommendations and strategic actions to improve the efficiency, resilience, and sustainability of Türkiye’s wild shrimp value chain, addressing challenges such as market organization, governance, social security for fishers, and environmental concerns. These findings serve as a foundation for informed decision-making and sectoral improvements.
