As widely recognized, sustainably managed forests and sustainably used forest products and services are more relevant today than ever before for the people, economies, landscapes and the planet itself. This International Day of Forests (IDF) is an opportunity for celebrating the essential roles that forests play in driving economic prosperity in Asia and the Pacific. These are well beyond income and jobs from forest production and the trade of renewable raw materials and foods, for example, sustaining family and community agriculture, enhancing agricultural productivity, safeguarding healthy watersheds. These nature-based solutions thus help meet environmental challenges (e.g. carbon storage and replace carbon intensive materials with renewable substitutes) while generating new economic opportunities in Asia andthe Pacific. This event will focus on how forests contribute to building and sustain low-carbon and biodiversity-positive economies and thus help meet climate, biodiversity, and other sustainable development goals in the Asia-Pacific region for today and tomorrow.
