In 2024, IICA strengthened agricultural development and innovation in Guatemala through the CRIA Program, benefiting 1,761 producers in maize, beans, tomato, chili, and cardamom value chains with training, agricultural inputs, bioinput production, pruning management, and postharvest improvements. Fifty-nine professionals graduated from the Agricultural Research Specialization Program, and improved yellow maize and potato seeds resistant to pests were validated and promoted. IICA supported ICTA’s institutional strengthening by developing pilot processing plants and specialized laboratories. In the cocoa sector, the National Cocoa of Excellence Competition and SICACAO 2024 enhanced product quality and value chain coordination. Efforts to prevent and eradicate the New World screwworm trained 1,195 stakeholders and expanded educational outreach. Rural energy initiatives introduced solar pumping and heating systems, while 103 rural women strengthened entrepreneurial capacities. The TeleGAN project also began implementation to enhance livestock sustainability and climate adaptation across several municipalities.
