| dc.description | Annual inflation rates of global and regional consumer price indices (CPI) measures inflation rates of food and general consumer price indices for a group of countries at different geographical scales: sub-regional (e.g. Middle Africa), regional (e.g. Africa) and global (all countries). Country and regional consumer price indices are updated in FAOSTAT on a quarterly basis. The general CPI covers 204 countries, and the food CPI covers 200 countries worldwide. The evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic and the uncertainty surrounding the geopolitical situation in Eastern Europe in 2021 affected both the year-on-year variation of the consumer price indices and the statistical quality of the price data. According to the latest update the annual variation of the global general consumer price index decreased from 3.8 percent in 2019 to 3.5 percent in 2020 before going up to 6.3 percent in 2021. | |
